My View on Street Talk Advertisment

Quite Ironic
As I was taking down any remaining posters I had up around my block of flats, I noticed that there was a NO SMOKING sign right next to the smoking area.
Thought it was quite ironic.
The government are clearly pushing advertisement right up until smokers go to light a cigarette!
....Or they just have a sense of humor!

Smoking
Once upon a time, smoking was a huge fad and no one saw any problems with it. Now in the modern society we live in, more and more experiments and research have gone into finding issues and dangers connected with smoking.
Over the last 30 years advertisement has been a massive influence into convincing people to cut down and quit. From statistics and images to shock the nation into wiping out cigarettes.
I have chosen to base my project around smoking as it is a massive issue among young adults, from the ages of 16-24 in particular, with adults from the age group 20-24 (my age group) hitting the highest percentage of smokers over the last 4 years, and is still growing.
I'm not a smoker myself and I have no issue with people who decide to smoke, I am not trying to convey a negative image, yet am more interested into seeing what advertisement techniques would influence young smokers to either quit, cut down or carry on smoking; using the most modern and teen influenced types of advertisement, e.g Street Talk.
Term 2 - Street Talk
When looking at my brief options, "Street Talk" stood out to me. This term is used for a type of advertisement, it initially started on phone boxes through out the UK, this is because there are 25,000 phone boxes around residential areas and city centres that carry advertisement on the side.
This therefore influences young people that then through word of mouth pass the advertisement along to friends and family, hence the term "Street Talk".
For my project I want to explore different ways in which advertisement travels across the young community, to influences us into buying certain things or obeying by certain rules etc.
